From 12th June 2024 to 27th July 2024, GPEX hosted 5 workshops aimed at aligning Cambridge English and UEC Syllabus. These workshops engaged over 161 English teachers from 28 Chinese private high schools in Malaysia.
The workshops focused on aligning Cambridge English and UEC Syllabus, contextual language teaching, and motivating students beyond textbooks. Participants explored effective strategies to enhance exam preparation and deepen their understanding of the English language.
These sessions were an important step in helping teachers understand the differences and similarities between UEC and Cambridge materials:
– Alignment of UEC and Cambridge Materials: Ensuring a seamless teaching approach for concurrent exam preparedness for teachers.
– Contextual Language Teaching: Promoting a greater appreciation of language by teaching it in context.
– Motivation Beyond Textbooks: Encouraging students and teachers to cultivate an aesthetic appreciation of the English language through effective teaching strategies.
The sessions were conducted by Ms. Monica Menon, a Senior Education Officer from the Ministry of Education, Singapore. Ms. Menon is also an Adjunct Lecturer and Practicum Supervisor for the National Institute of Education (Singapore) and an author for the British Council (Singapore).
